Drive Time Radio

with Max Read and John Ganz

Good afternoon and welcome to a slightly different edition of Vinson Cunningham’s Quiet Storm.

Yesterday afternoon, I showed up as a guest on the biweekly live chat between my friends Max Read and John Ganz. Max is the author of Read Max, an endlessly intelligent newsletter about politics, culture, media, and the future. He has written for New York, The New York Times, the Times Magazine, and other fine publications, and is the former editor of Gawker. John is the author of Unpopular Front, another brilliant newsletter, about politics, history, and society. His book, When the Clock Broke, is a Times bestseller. He also writes a regular column for The Nation.

We talked about the the killing of Renee Good, the messes in Minneapolis and Venezuela, the continued devolution of X and Grok, brand new perversions in nationalistic thinking, the political utility of violent spectacle, and a bevy of questions from the live audience.

This was really fun to do. I hope you enjoy it—if you do, let me know! Maybe, in keeping with the vibe of this “show,” you can think of it as a bit of drive time radio. Be sure to catch Read and Ganz every other Wednesday on Substack Live and subscribe to their excellent newsletters.

Oh! And to hold you over until the weekend, here’s a little mini-playlist.

Until next time—Keep Storming:
